Bolgers is a leading medical equipment fabrication and assembly supplier based in Shannon, Co Clare, Ireland. It is increasing its ventilator fabrication manufacturing to support Medtronic as they more than double their capacity to manufacture and supply ventilators in response to the urgent needs of patients and healthcare systems across the globe confronting COVID-19.
Medtronic
recognizes the acute need for ventilators as life-saving devices in the
management of COVID-19 infections. High-performance ventilators play a critical
role in the management of patients with severe respiratory illness, such as
COVID-19, who require assistance because they cannot breathe effectively. By
placing a patient on such a ventilator, the patient’s lungs are permitted to
rest and recover while the ventilator performs the functions of supplying
oxygen and simulating the actions of breathing. Without ventilation support,
many patients with severe respiratory disease might not survive.
In Bolgers we
manufacture the chassis’ for Medtronic’s Puritan Bennett™ 980 (PB 980) and
Puritan Bennett™ 840 (PB 840) high performance ventilators from our purpose
built facility in Shannon, Ireland. These ventillators are primarily designed
for critically ill patients in high acuity setting.
Bolgers Demand
and Supply
Ventilator
demand has significantly increased in light of COVID-19, and Bolgers continues
to work with Medtronic to meet this increased global demand. “We have identified
additional opportunities to increase our manufacturing capacity including bringing
on additional staff, approx. 25+ people, and implementing new manufacturing
shift patterns. We also have strong commitments from our supply chain to
support us during this unprecedented ramp up of demand and we fully expect to
support Medtronic to get ventilators to market quickly. Bolgers in partnership
with our supply chain are now going to be in the frontline of the battle
against COVID-19 and we will play our part in the national and international
effort” said Managing Director Graham Bolger.

On Friday 23rd Bolgers Business Development Manager, Paul Collins, attended a business lunch with Ambassador Simon S. K. Tu and Clare Fine Gael TD Joe Carey in Quin, Co. Clare. Also in attendance were Brian King from Smithstown Light Engineering and Vincent Delaney from UTS HR Group.
During the meeting there were very rich discussions on Taiwan’s manufacturing capabilities, competitiveness and quality in the area of machine building and export as well as the culture comparisons between Taiwan and Ireland.
It was also really interesting to hear, from a neutral prospective, the Ambassadors opinion on Brexit and what he thinks lies ahead.
To finish the Ambassador kindly invited us to Dublin in October to celebrate Taiwan’s national day.
